WHERE IS THE OVERSIGHT?
California Patients and Firefighters Deserve Better
The purpose of the California State Board of Pharmacy (BOP) is to oversee pharmacies and protect patients. Yet, they are actively harming patients by taking actions to block access to legal treatments that vulnerable Californians depend on.
Stand Against the CA Board of Pharmacy's proposed regulations which would block patient access to Safe Category 1 Sterile Compounds.
Keep glutathione, methylcobalamin (vit B12), and NAD+ Infusions Accessible in California by Signing Our Petition!
OUR GOALS
The California State Legislature must take official actions to increase oversight on The BOP – particularly its officers who do not have term limits – in order to prevent regulatory overreach and ensure that pharmacy regulations are grounded in scientific evidence.
The CA State Legislature must pass legislation that prevents The BOP from being able to block patient access to widely used treatments – especially ones that are allowable under FDA guidelines as is the case with Category 1 substances. The new legislation must safeguard patient access to treatments they've depended on for years, as no single board should have the decision-making power to take them away or intimidate pharmacies into ceasing their production.
We call on Governor Newsom to appoint at least one additional sterile compounding pharmacist to The BOP, ensuring that decisions are informed by those with direct experience in this highly specialized form of pharmacy.
WHO ARE WE?
We are a patient-led advocacy movement seeking to STOP the California Board of Pharmacy (The BOP) from blocking our access to safe and legal Category 1 Sterile compounds, which include the vital antioxidant known as glutathione, NAD+, and methylcobalamin, the most bioavailable form of vitamin B12.
With only 18 highly specialized 503A pharmacies left in California, The BOP seems to stop at nothing to bring them down, having sued eight of these pharmacies already (all lawsuits which they've lost). In a year when California's budget is reduced by 8%, somehow The BOP has convinced the Legislature to grant them an additional $2.4 million to continue to come down on these sterile compounding pharmacies.
Are these all bad actors? No, we believe many members of the Legislature and BOP are acting on bad information. So, it is our job to inform them of the TRUTH. These compounds are in Category 1 specifically because the FDA has deemed them allowable and safe under their interim policy. As such, they are easily accessible in all 49 other states.
What is The BOP's motive? Unfortunately they have not provided a single safety-based of scientific justification for their actions. What we do know is The BOP has unchecked power, and we believe that blocking access to an entire class of legal substances is an abuse of that power. If you agree, sign our petition today.
